There are a few words and phrases you’ll find used over and over again to describe the differentiating features or benefits of Sorbothane insoles. If we lose you at any time, just come to this page for an explanation.

Air-infused - During the molding process, the Sorbothane material is mixed with air to be lighter, softer and more cushioned. SorboAir®
Antifungal - Prevents growth of mold and other types of fungus. All the foam and fabric top covers on Sorbothane insoles have natural antifungal properties, so there’s none of that antiseptic smell that comes with materials that have been sprayed or treated. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboAir®, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™, Sorbothane® Heel Pad
Energy return - With each step, your energy is expended. Over time, this can cause repetitive strain and impact-related injuries. The specially formulated Sorbothane Energy Core captures a portion of that expended energy and propels it back up into the forefoot for a more springy, less jarring ride. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboElite™
Fabric cover- On Sorbothane insoles, it's the moisture-wicking material that the foot rests on. SorboAir®, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™
Foot strike protection - As different areas of the foot come in contact with the ground, Sorbothane absorbs the impact, alleviating the pressure and stress that can otherwise lead to foot injury. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboAir®, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™, Sorbothane® Heel Pad
Friction - In terms of feet, it's the action of the foot rubbing against the interior of footwear and moving inside the sock. Where there is friction there is heat. The resulting perspiration can lead to blisters, chafing and rashes. SorboElite™
Graphite - A carbon-based material that exhibits great strength and flexibility yet is lightweight - an ideal combination for spring-action arch support. Ultra Graphite Arch™
Metatarsal - The area of the foot just before the toes; the ball of the foot. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboElite™
Moisture-management - Pulls moisture away from the skin so skin remains cool, dry and well ventilated. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboAir®, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™, Sorbothane® Heel Pad
Motion control - Promotes proper foot mechanics by reducing excessive inward roll of the foot (overpronation) that occurs during each stride. The majority of people overpronate to some extent. Ultra Graphite Arch™, SorboElite™
Orthotic - Typically, a custom-molded thermoplastic material prescribed to compensate for foot abnormalities that cause pain in the feet, legs, hips and back. Sorbothane uses graphite and polypropylene to deliver similar benefits and results. Ultra Graphite Arch™, SorboElite™
Polypropylene plate - Molded synthetic plastic that resists deformation or deterioration. Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™
Poron® foam - Synthetic, antifungal material that is highly resilient, resistant to compression, provides traction and exhibits shock-absorbing properties. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, Sorbothane® Heel Pad
Polyurethane - A soft, synthetic material that is extremely durable, tear-resistant and withstands impact and wear. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboAir®, SorboElite™
Shock-absorption - The capability of a material to take the brunt of impact, thereby reducing jarring, pain and impact-related injuries. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboAir®, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™, Sorbothane® Heel Pad
Sorbothane® - A proprietary visco-elastic polymer that combines high-energy absorption with an excellent memory that enables it to instantaneously return to its original shape. Visco-elastic means a solid material that exhibits liquid-like "flowing" properties under load. For further details, go to What is Sorbothane?
Stability - In terms of insoles, a design that has firm reinforcement around the heel and through the midsole beneath the arch for extra support, pain relief and injury prevention. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Sorbothane® Full Rigid Arch™, Sorbothane® 3/4 Rigid Arch, SorboElite™
Toe-off - The phase in a person's gait when toes "push off" the ground, providing forward momentum. Ultra Graphite Arch™, Ultra Sole™, Women's Ultra Sole™, SorboElite™
Torsion control - The restriction of excessive twisting. Applied to insoles, it helps prevent injuries by reducing the amount feet twist, tilt or roll with each step. SorboElite™
